The best time leaders spend is the time they invest in their people

In 2020 I found I had the opportunity to take my back-burner project and turn it into a viable business.

Stemming from a strong desire to understand why I do and say the things I do - how that has worked for me and against me over many years, I have accumulated some insight (finally) and some really impactful tools and skills I've used to help myself break through the same cycles of leadership successes and failures.

At the end of two decades in the demanding hospitality industry, where leadership is not part of the culinary learning journey, I took the opportunity to explore and discover some of the basic ideas behind human behaviour and what that is supposed to look like at the coal-face.

That journey provided me some important touchpoints with various people and organisations that demonstrate the truth behind the value leaders put in their people.

It's a thrill to facilitate workshops where teams and individuals walk away changed for good - with new tools in their belt. Why is it that good? Because lives are impacted. Mental well being improves as we become more effective in the way we interact with others, and we get better results because we did something new.

As a self-proclaimed Mental Wealth Advisor, I aim to help my clients build their wealth in themselves, their people and their communities with practical and proven tools.
In my experience through adversity (yes, even before Covid-19…), I have seen how deploying our strengths from our personal-values launch pad is the quickest and most motivating strategy.

This gives us more control over the outcome and boosts our mental wealth rather than drain it.

A bit of background

It’s been interesting working across different sectors and varying sized businesses and teams to say the least! Some great, one or two really bad ones, (and yes I’ve been a great employee and a not so great one too! More like experiments perhaps) and every single one has enriched my understanding of various dynamics. Well, really, when do we ever stop learning?

I’ve gained insight into:

  • Large and small hospitality operations
  • Small business ownership
  • Huge business training and development programs
  • Privately owned education providers
  • Government-funded training organisations

Some stuff I’ve been learning about

Aside from the very expensive University of Life (I’ve invested at much cost), I’ve really tried to take advantage of each new situation, like taking the opportunity to learn instructional design as a by-product of teaching leadership theory – or putting my hand up to develop my facilitation skills with the legendary educational psychologist, Rich Allen (if you know, you know…). Working with talented trainers and coaches who demonstrate the application of neuroscience has been incredibly helpful too! Not to mention entertaining and slightly disturbing at times…

I’ve been learning about:

  • Neuroscience and coaching
  • Positive Psychology Coaching
  • Anxiety and the brain
  • Strengths awareness
  • other stuff too.

The Process

01

Chat & Understand

While it might be obvious, it’s actually really critical I understand what you want, but also we need to know if we make a good team.

In person or over a video call, I’d like to know where you’re at now and where you’d like to be.
If it’s your team or business you want to move ahead, this works too.

02

Plan

I’ll have a few ideas in mind, and I’ll take a day or two to put a plan together.

This will be in consideration of time and budget – some things will only need minimal engagement, or we can plan a strategy that spans months or years, as in the case of Leadership Development Journeys.

03

Action

We’ll carry out our plan.

No two clients are the same, but we will have a plan with clear steps and accountability to ensure the action happens.

04

Evaluate

It’s really important we review progress and take the time to evaluate effectiveness. This is where real growth can come (for us both) as we think about what went well and what could be done better.

Working with Me

As a Positive Psychology Coach, it’s my job to help my clients flourish by gaining clarity on their goals, capitalise on their strengths and become happier and more successful – in a way that’s meaningful to them. You’ll find me relaxed and non-judgmental.

As a training facilitator I am genuinely interested that my clients understanding what they can do differently to achieve better outcomes and that they to explore their ‘why’.

Rest assured, if I don’t think I’m the right match – or you think that too, I’ll do my best to find a match that works.
