One on One Coaching

Coaching is a tool to draw out your strengths and leverage them - a catalyst for positive change.
We've all experienced feeling 'stuck', or perhaps we realise something is holding us back.
Yes it's true, we can be our own worst enemies!

One on One coaching means we can focus on identifying where your strengths lie, what limiting beliefs need busting and create an action plan to move you forward.

What's Involved?

The first step is for us to meet, over video call or in person, to help us both decide if we can work together.

For One on One coaching to be successful, you will need to be prepared to learn new ways of looking at things, and to hold yourself accountable in following up. If you think you can make those two commitments – then you’re coachable!

Key Deliverables
  • Be able to tap into your strengths
  • Become more effective in communicating what you need
  • Know what to do when you are holding yourself back
  • Be able to cope with stresses in life and work
  • Take back control where you need it

Our Process

If we decide to work together, then we’ll talk about how many sessions we’ll need and over what time period. It all depends on what you want to achieve – no two clients are the same!

The agenda is 100% up to you – I will work hard to meet those needs using the tools and techniques at my disposal.

Key Outcomes
  • Critical self awareness (why you do what you do)
  • Key priorities – what’s important
  • Clear action plan to get you where you want to go
  • Focused coaching support – I’ll remind you when you get distracted….

Ok - so you want more details?

Self awareness and strengths

You know those maps they have in the shopping mall – “YOU ARE HERE”.
The point of those maps becomes clear when it is another point you want to get to. Without a starting point, the map is fairly useless.

Self awareness is about knowing the reasons behind the way you behave , why you react to various challenges a certain way and helps you get clarity on what you can do to get a different outcome.

If you want something different – do something different.

Personal strengths go hand in glove in increasing your effectiveness when it comes to achieving your desired result. Using your strengths gets you bigger bang for your buck. Why?

A mistake many people make is focusing on improving their weaknesses to be better or get better outcomes – but this is an energy sapper.
It’s much better to understand which strength to use at the right time, and to get better at using some of your under-utilised strengths. You will find you’ll be energised!

I bet you can’t even list 10 strengths….yet, depending on the framework that’s the best fit, you can leverage 20 or more – this is key to unlocking potential that is currently sitting idle.

Communicating what you need

Have you ever tried to communicate with another person where you don’t know a word of their language? It’s possible to finally get the end result, but it takes a lot of effort and plenty of misunderstanding!

Do you notice communicating in teams, or even at home, can pretty much be the same?

To be successful in a foreign environment, learning the language of the other person will improve outcomes EXPONENTIALLY! The message gets through faster, misunderstandings are less of a disaster and everyone gets what they need sooner.

What would be different for you if everyone understood exactly what you were trying to get across? And vice-versa? Remember, no-one is purposely trying to have an unproductive and frustrating time at work (ok, some do, but that’s a different discussion we can have about why that might be happening). Assuming the best, everyone wants to meet the right outcomes.

There’s a number of options we can use to help you communicate effectively.
Once you’re aware of how others see the world, you can respond in their “language”.
They will feel respected
You will develop stronger relationships
You will build trust
You will get what you need.

We're our own worst enemy!

Yes – we know it’s true. But how can we change that?

Our core beliefs are our most deeply help assumptions about ourselves and the world around us.
Because they are firmly embedded in our thinking, they can be the cause of many of our problems and what we tells ourselves.

The good news is they’re often untrue, and we can change them!

As long as you understand I’m not a psychologist or a psychiatrist – or even a therapist!
Positive Psychology Coaching is a growing field based on the study of what it takes for humans to flourish and help you approach optimal functioning.

So, I can help you identify self-limiting beliefs and coach you through the process of developing new strategies to overcome your ANTs (automatic negative thoughts).

Dealing with stress and circumstances

Stress and anxiety go hand in hand – managing them can be a daunting task if we don’t have the skills or knowledge to understand what’s going on.

While some anxiety and stress are normal, we can find ourselves getting overwhelmed and not using an effective coping style, or heading towards burnout.

We can work together to safely navigate more effective coping styles that will help you move forward again and reduce the negative impacts on your wellbeing.

Frameworks

Frameworks - Or as I like to think of them - coat hangers. Cheesy, maybe, but it's a good way to view these programs. On their own, they won't fix your problems, or get your clothes off the floor - but they do provide you a structure to hang something of substance. I'm certified to administer and facilitate the programs under these world leading organisations. My role is to make sure you're using the right one and ensure you know how to use it effectively.
Core Strengths

People make better decisions in their interactions with others when they understand their core strengths. This is the foundation of productive team relationships. Once everyone has this insight you can orchestrate a culture of collaborative efficiency

Tricia Tasker, Someday Cafe

Someday Cafe, in the South Taranaki town of Hawera, is a funky urban eatery. Tricia Tasker is the owner, and like thousands of small business owners, faces the challenges that comes with territory, with confidence and grit.

Here’s what Tricia has to say about what helped her when, in 2020 B.C (Before Covid), she has been operating her cafe for a couple of years. To her credit, she and her small band of hospo warriors rose to the challenges of Covid, and Someday is still here – which we’re stoked about!

“Understanding how to communicate with my team and for them to know how to communicate with me is paramount. As a new business owner, two years in, I was looking for ways to create a cohesive working environment. Critically, I knew going into business, I lacked confidence in dealing with staff conflicts and any potential disciplinary issues.

Tim help guide me through some tough issues (well, they felt tough to me!) in a clear and concise way, by first helping me understand where my strengths are, and how I approach situations.

I completed the Core Strengths assessment, which gave me the tools to choose new ways of approaching situations and communicate more effectively with my staff.

I found coaching with Tim immensely helpful, helping me be more conscious of the way I respond to situations.”
